RETHINKING VIA EMILIA
CREATIVE GEOGRAPHIES IN PIACENZA
TOPIC
LOL 2022 focuses on the western part of the urban system, along the historical direction of Via Emilia. It’s a complex urban and landscape environment where logistic assets (a very large urban sector of about 2K hectares) are strongly intertwined with productive and commercial areas and with mobility infrastructures. This framework is strongly impacted by the natural corridor of Po River (in the northern edge) and the close agricultural and open areas and is characterised by complex social geographies with different communities that are occupying the areas with diverse intensities.
In this contradictory background, the workshop is called to design global and local architectural and landscape strategies oriented to build a new identity for the area in order to stress a process towards reconnecting with nature.
KEY WORDS
Regeneration | Biodiversity | Depaving | Naturalization | Sustainable design | Urban ecology | Climate change | Water management | Slow mobility
