DESIGN ATELIER

The workshop will be organised into three teams, led by three different atelier leaders.


ATELIER 01

Marc Boutin

Marc Boutin has studied architecture, architectural history and sculpture throughout Canada, and in Barcelona and Rome. In 1997 he joined the University of Calgary and was the Director of the Architecture Program from 2006-2010. As an Associate Professor he teaches studio, theory and history, and representation.
His critical practice has focused on the synthesis of art, architecture, and urban design, and the resultant portfolio of houses, public architecture and public realm has been recognized and published nationally and internationally. Marc was the recipient of the 2002 Prix de Rome and his firm The Marc Boutin Architectural Collaborative, was the 2020 Royal Architectural Institute of Canada Firm of the Year winner. Marc is a Fellow in the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Art.

ATELIER 02

Miriam García

Miriam García García (Sama-Langero, Asturias, 1971) architect (1989) and PhD Extraordinary Award (2017) by the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM). She is also a landscape architect, urban planner and director of LAND LAB, laboratorio de paisajes, an office based in Barcelona. From there she collaborates in different projects aimed at the promotion and development of spatial planning, landscape, urban design and its adaptation to climate change. Many of these works have been national and international awarded such as the Prize of the XII Spanish Architecture and Urbanism Biennial (BEAU), Good Practice 2012 of the UN-Hábitat Committee or SuperIlla Barcelona (Plaza Enric Granados). She combines professional practice with research and teaching on both sides of theAtlantic. Currently she teaches at the Master’s Degree in Urban Planning and Territorial Studies at the National Institute of Public Administration of Madrid andat the Department of Urban Planning and Spatial Planning of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (DUOT, ETSAB, UPC). Likewise, she is a Member theScientific Committee of Europan Europe.

ATELIER 03

Francisco Gómez Díaz

Francisco Gómez Díaz is a Ph.D. Architect and Full Professor of Architectural Projects at the University of Seville. He has been invited as a professor to universities in China, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Morocco, Mexico, Ecuador, and Cuba. Member of the Contemporary Architecture Foundation, he is also Conservator of the Cathedral of Baeza. In his more than forty years of professional practice, he has won several national and international competitions. These works have received awards in projects of landscape, heritage restoration, and new construction, having been published in national and international magazines, and included in numerous exhibitions. His publications include the books “A salto de mapa” (Cántico, 2020), “De Forester a Sert. Ciudad y Arquitectura en La Habana [1925-1960]” (Abada, 2008), “Aprendiendo de La Habana” (COPT, 2002), “Dos Miradas: SCU-SVQ” (COPT, 2006) and “La Habana_Ciudad Bahía” (COPT, 2011). He is also co-author of “Arquitectura Española del Exilio” (Lampreave, 2015), “Arniches y Domínguez” (Akal, 2017), “Progettare i piccoli centri: Studi e ricerche per la regenerazione del paesaggio storico di San Gemini” (Quodlibet, 2018), “Caligramas of ether. The work of Hisae Yanase” (Cántico, 2022), “Attorno all’acqua. Narrazioni, mappature, progetto per il territorio del Nera tra Marmore e Orte (Quodlibet, 2022), and “Eusebio Leal. Desde las dos orillas” (Utopía, 2023).
